About Courage
Courage Cooper is a young Liberian climate justice advocate, youth empowerment champion, and aspiring economist dedicated to advancing community development, environmental sustainability, and inclusive opportunities for young people. Originally from Karnplay, District #3, Nimba County, and proudly of the Gio and Mano ethnic groups, she was raised in Central Monrovia and surrounding communities, where she developed a strong passion for leadership, service, and social impact.
Currently pursuing a degree in Economics at the University of Liberia, Courage combines academic excellence with active community engagement, using her voice and skills to advocate for positive change across Liberia.
Education and Professional Development
Courage completed her secondary education at St. Theresa Convent Catholic School and has further enhanced her professional capacity through specialized training programs. In 2024, she acquired a Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Financial Management through Gonet Academy in partnership with EduStad. She also earned a certificate in Strategic Planning and Program Management from the Youth International Leadership Institute and holds certification as a Climate Justice Activist.
Community Engagement and Volunteer Activities
Courage has established an impressive record of leadership and volunteerism through youth-focused and environmental initiatives.
Her contributions include:
- Serving with the Center for Youth Civic Leadership and Environmental Studies (CYCLES) as Coordinator for Youth Empowerment and Employment, where she has supported the creation of scholarship and employment opportunities for young people pursuing vocational and higher education.
- Volunteering with Zero Plastic Liberia as Program Lead for Plastic Pollution and the Circular Economy, promoting innovative recycling initiatives that transform plastic waste into valuable resources while encouraging environmental sustainability.
- Supporting community outreach activities with the Alliance for Women and Children Development, including the distribution of Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITNs) across communities in Montserrado County.
- Advocating for youth empowerment, community development, environmental sustainability, and climate justice through various community and national initiatives.
- Currently developing a biodegradable packaging initiative aimed at reducing single-use plastic waste in Liberia through innovative and sustainable environmental solutions.

National and International Representation
Passionate about empowering young women and amplifying youth voices, Courage represented Liberia at the 2025 West Africa Women Speakers Competition, an achievement that earned her recognition as an Ambassador for the initiative in Liberia.
She also participated in the Second Youth Summit organized by the Liberia Diplomatic Club, further expanding her leadership experience and commitment to national development.
In addition, Courage has contributed to important national conversations, including consultations on Liberia’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0) and discussions surrounding the launch of the integrated Person-to-Person (P2P) money transfer platform.
